This short lyrical piece was originally written for harmonica and harp. It is a free flow of musical thought on a simple melody, described by flautist Rachel Smith as “luscious“, which develops by way of numerous key changes and embellishment.
Review: “The Impromptu features carefully crafted melodic lines which interweave in a cohesive texture. The main theme appears in several guises through an exploration of suspensions and several ascending flourishes which create a fluid, flowing character which will prove very popular with audiences.” – Maria Marchant, August 2015
