La Fille Aux Cheveux Dores (The Girl with the Golden Hair), composed by Paul Lewis and dedicated to Rachel Smith, is a study in extreme legato and breath control. It is sensuous, delicate, intimate and very French, and has the most gorgeous and romantic tune imaginable. Rachel Smith recorded this work in April 2012 on the CD The World of the Flute, released in 2013 by Polyphonic, QPRZ 029D.
Review: “A beautifully sensuous piece, which I am delighted to have written for me by a composer so in touch with the strengths and possibilities of tone and colour of the flute. Beautifully melodic with space for virtuosity in the cadenza.” – Dr. Rachel Smith DMA, MA, BMus (Hons), FTCL – October 2012
Review: “La Fille aux Cheveux Dorés is a gentle piece, and has a persuasive melody with the feel of a waltz and should be manageable by a Grade 6 flute player. Paul Lewis’ music is instantly likeable and would make for attractive concert pieces.” – Alison Uren in Music Teacher May 2007
